Abstract – Theory of Architectural Design III

Theory of Architectural Design III introduces students to the process of developing architectural ideas and concepts with a strong focus on understanding user needs. This course teaches students how to analyze the requirements, behaviors, and expectations of the target audience and transform them into guiding principles for design. Key topics include different methods of ideation, discovering and shaping design concepts, and examining the influential factors that impact the formation of an initial concept.

Through reviewing examples, analyzing conceptual frameworks, and evaluating the steps of the design process, students enhance their creativity and gain the ability to develop their ideas more confidently. The course also emphasizes critical thinking, understanding the project’s context and site, and translating analytical insights into practical design decisions. Overall, it aims to help students build a personal, coherent, and creative approach to architectural design.
