Dear Students,
I treat the lectures in Urban and Road Engineering as a space for thinking together about the city. We start with a brief history of the contemporary transport model, and then move on to new approaches and standards, universal design, and issues of safety and the feeling of safety. We also look at practical topics: greenery, water management within the road corridor, and traffic calming strategies.
Our meetings take the form of a conversation I want you to feel comfortable, ask questions, and suggest your own topics whenever they fit within the scope of the course. During the semester, each of you will lead one short discussion during a lecture. This isnt an exam; its an opportunity for us to explore a topic that genuinely interests you.
