The course is designed to deliver to students knowledge on transmission channel used in radio communication systems and the methodology of its measurements and modelling.

Subject contents:

  1. Basic notions, logarithmic measures of signal level.
  2. Overview of radio communication services and systems.
  3. Characteristics of radio channel and radio frequency bands.
  4. Radio waves propagation mechanisms.
  5. Role of the antenna in radio communication system.
  6. Link equation and link budget.
  7. The effect of the atmosphere.
  8. Propagation of radio waves in different environments.
  9. Multipath phenomenon and Doppler effect.
  10. Slow and fast fading phenomena.
  11. Diversity.
  12. Radio channel modelling.
  13. Instrumentation for radio communication systems.
  14. Radio channel measurements methodology.
  15. Statistical analysis of radio channel measurements.
