Due 4.06.2020 - Algorithm aversion task
In two weeks, we have a class about ways in which the decision-making process can be enhanced. The possible uses of algorithms have elicited a lot of hope. We know that, in many ways, they can help us overcome our shortcomings. Simultaneously, people may tend to distrust algorithms and judge them more severely than humans when their "advice" leads to a bad decision. The term "algorithm aversion" has been coined to describe this phenomenon. As your task, I would like you to dig a bit deeper into this topic.
I would like you to enjoy a bit of flexibility in terms of specifying the exact assignment's topic. Possible options include (but or not limited to):
- How to overcome algorithm aversion?
- What are the reasons behind algorithm aversion?
- Is algorithm aversion just a contemporary version of "Luddism" and is likely to disappear soon?
- To what extent is algorithm aversion justified?
- Factors which increase and decrease algorithm aversion
You may design your own topic (but make sure it covers algorithm aversion), select one of the above, or make an amalgamation of them. Please state your topic at the beginning of the submission.
Important requirements:
- You should write the assignment yourself using sources (please do not copy and paste someone else's text)
- List the sources at the end
- It should be at least 2500 characters long, including spaces (it is not much), and there is no maximum limit
