Due 21.05, 17.00 CET - Final project topic propositions

Completion requirements
Opened: Thursday, 14.05.2020, 00:00
Due: Thursday, 21.05.2020, 00:00

I would like you to start thinking about your final project. Let me remind you that it is a group project (app. 3 people per group) and that it should include a proposition about the way in which human decision making in a certain domain might be improved.

Its value is 40% of your final grade.

Please submit the names of members of your group and the proposed topic or several topics.
If you are not sure what to choose and would like to talk to me, just let me know, and I will meet you during my office hours or schedule a meeting for you. You may also contact me via email.

Update 19.05.2020

To make the task a little easier for you, I will list below few examples of the topics investigated by the previous cohort in 2019. You may choose to study the same or similar issue or treat it as just food for thought.
Please remember that in accordance with the task requirements presented during our first meeting (they are listed in the first presentation), your project should have a practical aspect – it should include a proposition of how bias can be mitigated or human decision enhanced in a given area.
It does not have to be a detailed solution, but it should be there.
Your final project can be divided into four parts (they are also mentioned in the first presentation)
1. Your group members and their contribution
2. Topic and the rationale for its selection
3. Problem investigation - research and elements of a deeper dive conducted by the group (e.g., interviews, desk research, literature analysis)
4. Description of mechanisms and proposed solutions

Few examples of last year topics:
• Does the human ability to take accurate and complex decisions change during a day, and would it make sense to, for example, schedule strategic meetings in the morning?
• Demonstrating ways in which statistical data is often manipulated to prove a given point; teaching people how to deal with that issue
• Dealing with the planning fallacy; developing more reliable assessment of time needed to complete tasks/projects
• The effects of biases on data analysis
• Using gamification to enhance human decisions in selected domains
These are just examples, but I hope they might be of help to you.
