Task: Conduct an Empirical Analysis of a Selected Demographic Phenomenon
Your task is to carry out an empirical analysis of a demographic phenomenon of your choice. The project should be based on empirical data and analytical methods of your choice. You will present the results of your work in the form of a short report and a conference poster.
Steps to Complete the Task:
Choose a topic and consult it with teacher:
Select a demographic phenomenon that interests you, such as changes in age structure, migration, fertility rates, urbanization, or population aging. Consult your chosen topic and the spatial-temporal scope of the analysis with teacher. The analysis should cover a specific geographical area and time frame.
Prepare a theoretical introduction:
- Introduce and define the selected demographic phenomenon using academic literature.
- Explain why this topic is significant from the perspective of demography, social policy, economy, or spatial planning.
- The introduction should be 1,500–4,000 characters with spaces.
Justify your choice of diagnostic variables:
- Identify the variables that will serve as the foundation of your analysis (e.g., natural increase rate, migration rate, age structure).
- Explain why you chose these variables and how they relate to the studied phenomenon.
- Indicate the sources of your data (e.g., national statistical offices, Eurostat, WHO) and justify their reliability.
- This section should also be 1,000–2,000 characters with spaces.
Conduct an empirical analysis:
- Gather data relevant to the topic and the spatial-temporal scope of your analysis.
- Use appropriate analytical tools.
- Clearly present and interpret the obtained results. Ensure the analysis is methodologically accurate and addresses various aspects of the phenomenon.
Present your results in the form of a conference poster (size: A1):
- Prepare a poster that presents your results in an accessible and visually appealing way.
- The poster should include:
- A brief theoretical introduction.
- Methodology.
- Key findings in the form of charts, maps, tables, and diagrams.
- Conclusions.
- Pay attention to the aesthetics, completeness, and clarity of the poster.
