Cultural Heritage Routes – Gdańsk. This course explores challenges, conflicts and concepts of cultural heritage preservation and protection at urban level, their connection to architectural and urban design in the time of digitalisation and their importance for a future of the cities. The aim of this course, based on the case study city of Gdańsk, is to understand the problem of cultural heritage and develop innovative solutions of architectural and urban design responding to a significant variation of rapidly changing digital era taking in consideration digital tools and conditions regarding Cultural Heritage.
Student activities, which will include live drawings using different techniques such as ink pen, pencil, and watercolor, will take place in the center of Gdansk, particularly in the area between the Main City Hall Portal and Mariacka Street.

Cultural Heritage Routes – Gdańsk Fortification System This course explores challenges, conflicts and concepts of cultural heritage preservation and protection in urban level, their connection to architectural and urban design in the time of digitalisation and their importance for a future of the cities. The aim of this course, based on the case study city of Gdańsk, is to understand the problem of cultural heritage and develop innovative solutions of architectural and urban design responding to a significant variation of rapidly changing digital era taking in consideration digital tools and conditions regarding Cultural Heritage. This elective design course will be carried out in the form of a block course as a part of the international research workshop - Gdańsk Summer School - taking place between 2nd-10th of July 2023.

The course aim is to get familiar with the topic of tangible and intangible cultural heritage created by women in 100 years. The recognition of the past and present achievements as well as problems and challenges female are facing in built environment is curtail for understanding importance of women involvement and need of their support and promotion. This new perception continues to increase the visibility of creative women, supports interdisciplinary and multicultural approaches to research on the built environment and facilitates the exchange of research and apprenticeship results in the fields of architecture, civil engineering and design.

Rozwój cywilizacyjny, ale też zmieniające się potrzeby użytkowników wymuszają na projektantach tworzenie przestrzeni przyjaznej wszystkim, w tym osób ze szczególnymi potrzebami. Jest to zakres projektowania uniwersalnego. Na zajęciach zajmiemy się tworzenie tzw. przestrzeni adaptabilnej, tj. przestrzeni przygotowanej do zmian. Pod pojęciem adaptabilność kryje się trend projektowania, który uwzględnia możliwość dostosowania przestrzeni zamieszkania do zmieniających się w czasie potrzeb użytkowników. W rozważaniu są prawa człowieka i jego prawo do tzw. „starzenia się w miejscu”. Odpowiedzialnością projektanta jest ograniczenie wykluczenia społecznego z uwagi na miejsce zamieszkania np. osób mieszkających w budynkach mieszkalnych bez windy. Adaptabilność powoli wkracza w przepisy prawa budowlanego, gdzie rozważa się wprowadzenie tzw. współczynnika adaptabilności i obowiązku przedstawienia w dokumentacji projektowej - projektu alternatywnego.

SUPERSURFACE – an alternative model for life
The studio will explore an alternative architectural models for contemporary society in the context of different political, cultural, economic and environmental contexts. Temporal living and technology links the general fashion principles with architecture. The projects will investigate the visionary scenarios through Superstudio movies Fundamental Acts and various concepts and structures of different fashion designers (Paco Rabanne, Pierre Cardin, Issey Myake, Balanciaga, Hussein Chalayan, Iris van Herper,…), whos works are related to space. The redefinition of each of them means introduction of new content and realization of temporal an alternative living unit. The abstraction and transformation of their general principles will be incorporate into the Supersurface model. Modeling, material, structure, patterens, social context and technology are some of the investigation data. All the Superfaces will be present on the common platform – temporal exhibition space.

Projekt realizowany będzie w 8 zespołach warsztatowych (3-4 studentów WA + student inżynierii środowiska WILIŚ). 4 zespoły przygotują propozycję przebudowy Gmachu B Politechniki Gdańskiej wraz z opracowaniem krajobrazowym fragmentu terenu kampusu jako laboratorium innowacyjnych rozwiązań technologicznych i środowiskowych. Zadanie będzie polegało na znalezieniu ciekawej formuły ukształtowania (rozbudowy) strefy przyziemniej budynku , kondygnacji podziemnej wraz z wyjściem w teren oraz propozycją nałożenia na budynek nowego rodzaju fasady. Przylegający fragment terenu kampusu będzie kształtowany tak, aby oferował wysokiej jakości przestrzeń publiczną, kształtowaną z wykorzystaniem zieleni, wody i sztuki. Kolejne 4 zespoły studentów zaproponują nowy budynek usytuowany pomiędzy budynkiem OiO i budynkiem Wydziału Mechanicznego wraz z propozycją ukształtowania liniowego cieku wodnego (jako częściowe odkrycie Potoku Królewskiego) wraz z zielenią i ekspozycją techniki i sztuki. Część dotycząca rozwiązań pro-środowiskowych będzie dodatkowo konsultowana ze specjalistami z zakresu inżynierii środowiska z WILIŚ.
