The scope of lecture
•Environmental biology is the science describing and explaining the relations between living organisms and the role of living organisms in the natural environment.
•Environmental biology includes a broad range of biological sciences, concerns animals, plants and microorganisms. These lectures focus on microorganisms.
The aim of the lectures is:
•to give the basic knowledge on microbial world, including molecular aspects, to show the role of microorganisms in the environment
Programme
•Introduction to the world of microbes.
•Principles of microscopy and staining.
•Sterilization and disinfection.
•Cultivation of microorganisms.
•Microbial ecology, aquatic and soil biogeochemical cycles, mutagens and gene transfer.
Passing the lecture
•1st term - test of choice, 25 questions, 4 answers to choose from
•2nd term - an additional interview to improve the score on condition of test score at minimum of 40%
• The credit threshold is 60 %
• Final test will be on January 29th 2026
